Dogs ride the rails with owners on scenic bullet train journey in Japan

Some lucky dogs in Japan were able to join their owners on board a special bullet train journey on May 21, 2022. The pilot scheme organised by Japan Railways allowed the animals in carriages on a one-hour ride from Tokyo’s Ueno station to the resort town of Karuizawa. Organisers hope to set up similar rides in the future to response to rising demand for pet travel options amid a boom in pet ownership since the start of the pandemic.
