After suffering years of miscarriages, a Sumatran rhino named Rosa finally gave birth to a healthy female calf on March 24, 2022, at Way Kambas National Park in Sumatra, Indonesia. The global conservation body WWF estimates that there are fewer than 80 of the critically endangered rhinos left in the world. Successful births of Sumatran rhinos are extremely rare, and coupled with multiple threats including poaching and climate change, the species has been brought to the brink of extinction.
