Crowds of wine lovers in Japan celebrated the official launch of this year’s Beaujolais Nouveau with a red wine bath on November 18, 2021. The event was held at Hakone Kowakien Yunessun Hot Spring Resort, an onsen theme park known for a wide array of unique spa-bathing offerings, such as wine, coffee and green tea. In 2022, Japan is expected to import about 3.6 million bottles of French wine, down 20 per cent compared to 2019 levels before the Covid-19 pandemic.
