Family mourns mother and son shot at point-blank range by Philippine policeman over noise dispute

Friends and family members gathered on December 22, 2020, to mourn the death of Sonya Gregori and her son Frank Gregori, who were shot in the head at point-blank range by Philippine policeman Jonel Nuezca. The shooting on December 20 in Tarlac city, north of the capital Manila, was captured on video. Nuezca is an off-duty policeman who was involved in a dispute with the Gregoris, his neighbours, over their use of a home-made “boga” noisemaker. The officer has been charged with double murder over the deaths of the 52-year-old woman and son, age 25. Video of the incident was widely shared online and prompted an outcry with renewed calls for police reform.
