Drone footage shows a town in the Philippines’ Negros Occidental province covered in ash following a second eruption of Mount Kanlaon on December 9, 2024. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology raised its alert level to a 3 on its five-point scale. Level 3 indicates an increased risk of lava flows and hazardous eruptions within weeks. The civil defence office said emergency evacuations were under way for people living near the volcano. An estimated 54,000 people could be affected by the eruption.
