Former Philippine president Rodrigo Duterte was arrested at Manila’s international airport on March 11, 2025, the government said. The 79-year-old was detained as he arrived from Hong Kong, with police taking him into custody on orders of the International Criminal Court (ICC) in connection with a case of crimes against humanity. In a statement, the office of current President Ferdinand Marcos Jnr said the ICC has been investigating the mass killings that happened during Duterte’s deadly anti-drugs crackdown.
