Twin bombings on an island in the southern Philippines killed at least 14 people, including soldiers and civilians, and wounded over 70 others on August 24, 2020. Philippine military officials said Islamist militants are suspected of being behind the attack. The two explosions were triggered in a town on the island of Jolo. The first was a bomb attached to a motorcycle that exploded around noon in front of a grocery store where two military trucks were parked outside, and a female suicide bomber blew herself up about an hour later. The latest attack is the biggest of its kind in the southern Philippines since the deadly January 2019 bombing of a cathedral on Jolo.
