Recovery efforts have entered a fifth day in Libya, where devastating floods decimated the northeastern part of the country on September 10, 2023. Over 5,000 people have been confirmed dead so far, with around 10,000 more missing. The disaster has also left tens of thousands homeless. International teams have joined recovery efforts to search for bodies in the sea and rubble. Libyan authorities ordered an investigation on September 14, 2023, into whether human failing was to blame for the high number of deaths in what is the worst natural disaster in the country's modern history.
