Seychelles declared a state of emergency on December 7, 2023, after a major blast at an explosives depot and deadly floods hit the country. President Wavel Ramkalawant ordered schools to close and people to stay at home. More than 100 people were injured in the explosion but no deaths were reported. The explosion occurred after deadly flooding hit other parts of the tiny Indian Ocean island nation, killing three people.
