Top Chinese diplomat Wang Yi met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on February 21, 2023. Wang is the highest-level Chinese official to visit Moscow since Russia launched its full-scale military assault on Ukraine a year ago. In a separate meeting with Russian Security Council secretary Nikolai Patrushev, Wang said the two countries will continue “close strategic cooperation and contact” to protect mutual interests amid escalating tensions with the United States.
