Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said Beijing supports holding an international summit to help to end the war in Ukraine at the “right time”. Speaking at a March 7, 2024, press conference during China’s annual “two sessions” gathering of the nation’s political elite and lawmakers, Wang said Beijing’s ultimate goal is to stop the war in Ukraine and that can only happen as soon as Russia and Ukraine agree to sit down to negotiate an end to the conflict. His comments came as China’s special envoy on Ukraine, Li Hui, was expected to visit Kyiv on March 7. Wang also hailed the current state of China-Russia relations, describing it as a new model of “great power cooperation”.
