Hong Kong Taxi Council tests new safety system in a bid to fight soaring insurance costs

The Hong Kong Taxi Council is testing a safety system that aims to correct bad driving habits among cabbies and in turn tackle the soaring cost of insurance for taxis. Ng Kwan-sing, the vice-chairman of Hong Kong Taxi Council, says insurance premiums now eat up about 60 per cent of their operating costs. The new system features driving behaviour sensors and cameras that can detect if a driver is getting sleepy behind the wheel.
