Mei Foo Sun Chuen was Hong Kong’s first private housing estate. It was also a remarkable break from the past as the estate was clean, spacious and orderly, and is considered by some to be the birthplace of Hong Kong’s middle class.
Built between 1968 and 1978 in eight phases, the gigantic development is a self-contained enclave, home to nearly 80,000 people in 99 identical blocks.
Lo Chung-cheong, who has been living in the estate for more than 20 years, shared with SCMP.com some of his most memorable moments in the estate.
