Residents in the southern Chinese province of Guangdong have been placed on high alert for “once in 50 years” river levels that have caused earlier than expected annual flooding, according to provincial authorities. Water flows in the Bei River breached its banks on April 22, 2024, forcing more than 60,000 people to evacuate. At least 6 have been injured.
