Firefighters in China’s southwestern Sichuan province have been battling a major wildfire that has been raging since March 15, 2024. Authorities deployed more than 1,000 fire crews to three main fire sites and ordered the evacuation of more than 5,900 residents in the area. Strong winds fanned the blaze that started near Baizi village in Yajiang county, and quickly spread over multiple mountain ridges. There have been no reports of casualties so far, but a section of a highway that passes through the region has been temporarily closed
