Taiwan's two main opposition parties, the Kuomintang and the Taiwan People's Party (TPP), have failed to form a joint ticket for January's presidential election. The TPP's Ko Wen-je registered to run for the top job on November 24, 2024. Analysts say the failure to agree to a joint ticket is likely to give the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) an easier path to victory. The developments are not likely not to sit well with officials in mainland China, who view DDP leader William Lai as a separatist.
