Taiwan residents in New Taipei City conducted a drill for nuclear emergencies on September 13, 2023. It was the first time the annual exercise, which simulates scenarios such as drone attacks and natural disasters, was enhanced from a “peacetime” to “wartime” severity level. On the same day, Taiwan's defence ministry said it spotted 28 mainland Chinese air force planes in the island’s air defence identification zone.
