The Philippines’ annual Balikatan, or “shoulder to shoulder”, military drills are set to be held with the United States starting April 21, 2025. Philippine Army Brigadier General Michael Logico said on April 15 the drills will be the “Super Bowl” of defence exercises and an opportunity to fully test Manila’s defence plans. Officials said the drills would include the China-opposed Typhon missile system to be deployed by the US, as well as the NMESIS anti-ship missile system. The US military hinted the arsenal could remain in the Philippines after the Balikatan.
