Vietnam’s largest financial fraud case got under way on March 5, 2024, with real estate tycoon Truong My Lan facing the death penalty. She is accused of being the mastermind in a fraud scam totalling US$12.5 billion. The amount involved is equivalent to about 3 per cent of Vietnam’s GDP in 2023.
