Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for closer ties with Vietnam during his two-day visit to Hanoi. Xi, who arrived in the Vietnamese capital on December 13, 2023, emphasised a strategic China-Vietnam partnership amid an ongoing dispute over competing claims to the South China Sea. Xi's visit followed a trip by US President Joe Biden to Hanoi in September.
