At least 43 people have died and 40 others were injured in a fire that broke out in an affluent neighbourhood in the Bangladeshi capital Dhaka. The blaze started in a restaurant inside a multistorey building on February 29, 2024. It took firefighters two hours to control the blaze as they rescued 75 trapped civilians. Fires are common in Bangladesh due, in part, to the lack of building safety procedures.
