Protesters have flooded the streets of the Bangladeshi capital Dhaka to celebrate the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Her dramatic departure from the country on August 5, 2024, followed weeks of violent unrest that left nearly 300 people dead. Army Chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman announced the formation of an interim government, but it was not immediately clear how long the transition leadership would stay in power. Experts said the turmoil may also pose a new challenge for US-India alignment in the Indo-Pacific region.
