On the first full moon of November, Thais partake in the Loy Krathong festival, an age-old tradition of gratitude towards the river deity for its provision of water and a gesture of remorse for polluting the waters. Typically, festivities involve the floating krathong, ornate baskets crafted from flowers and banana trunks. However, the influx of participants floating these offerings leads to river pollution as the debris drifts into the sea. At the One Ang canal, however, ‘digital krathong’ were introduced to mitigate the waste, marking a proactive shift towards environmental consciousness.
