Thailand’s same-sex marriage law took effect on January 23, 2025, as the country became the first in Southeast Asia to recognise marriage equality. Under the legislation, LGBTQ couples in Thailand have the same rights as other couples to manage their assets, inherit property, adopt children and make medical decisions for their partners. Thailand is also the third jurisdiction in Asia to recognise same-sex marriages, after Taiwan and Nepal.
