In a small Nepali village with a population of around 2,500 people, women have been turning black soldier fly larvae into a profitable business venture. The insects’ protein-rich eggs are dried and processed into feed for fish, chicken and pigs that can fetch 70 Nepali rupees (about US$0.53) per kilogram. The fly farm, owned and operated by the women enterprise, hopes to produce 3,500kg (7,716lbs) of larvae in one production cycle that ranges between 45 and 60 days.
