Buddhist nuns in Nepal performed a kung fu showcase on December 30, 2024, to mark the reopening of the Druk Amitabha Monastery, which had been closed for five years since the Covid-19 pandemic. The nuns, aged between 17 and 30, are part of the 1,000-year-old Drupka lineage, which provides them with equal status to monks in a traditionally male-dominated Buddhist monastic system. His Holiness Gyalwang Drukpa, a noted Tibetan monk, initiated kung fu training for the women to enhance their health and well-being.
