Myanmar junta chief vows to take ‘decisive action’ against opponents and ethnic rebel fighters

Myanmar's junta chief Min Aung Hlaing has vowed no let-up in cracking down on opponents of his military and insisted that it will hold an election. His comments on March 27, 2023, came weeks after admitting the junta did not control enough territory to allow for polls to go ahead. Myanmar has been in turmoil since the military deposed Aung San Suu Kyi's civilian government in 2021, claiming electoral fraud.
