French navy hunts for North Korean contraband smuggled on the high seas

A French naval force has been engaged in reconnaissance missions on the Yellow Sea since 2018 to look out for signs of contraband being smuggled in and out of North Korea. The surveillance team is part of an international mission enforcing United Nations sanctions on Pyongyang. Since 2006, North Korea has been subject to various measures that ban it from exporting materials, such as coal, iron and lead as well as seafood.
