Filipino migrant fisherman alleges abuse in Taiwan’s fishing industry

Filipino fisherman Marcial Gabutero has spoken up about the abuse he says he suffered as a migrant worker on a Taiwanese fishing vessel. He claims he was physically abused and had his wages withheld. But Gabutero is not the only one. Activists in Taiwan say it is a recurring situation and that stories of death have also emerged. They have criticised the Taiwanese government over a lack of basic labour law enforcement.
