President Vladimir Putin warned the West on March 13, 2024, that Russia was technically ready for nuclear war. Speaking just days ahead of Russia’s March 15-17 election that is certain to give him another six years in power, Putin added that he would deploy troops to the border with Finland. In response, Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo urged allies to strengthen its defences and warned that Russia was preparing for “long conflict with the West”.
