Russian President Vladimir Putin said his US counterpart Donald Trump’s plan to annex Greenland is “serious”. Putin cited US history as he made his remarks to a crowd on March 27, 2025, while visiting Murmansk, Russia’s northernmost major port and main gateway to the Arctic Sea. He said the US has in the past eyed the island for its strategic and geopolitical importance in the Arctic. The Russian leader also expressed concerns that the West could use the Arctic as a springboard for future conflicts.
