US Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo has urged Beijing to continue engaging with Washington, at the end of her four-day visit to China on August 30, 2023. Raimondo was the first US commerce chief to visit China in five years, and the latest Biden administration official to visit the country in a bid to strengthen communications, particularly on economy and defence, as friction between the world's two largest economies threatens to shake commercial ties. Among the key officials she met during her visit were Chinese premier Li Qiang and Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao. At the end of her trip, Raimondo described her visit as an “important beginning”, and again stressed that the US was not targeting China
