US President Joe Biden has sealed an agreement with Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi for the US to formally end its combat mission in Iraq by the end of 2021. The deal was reached during their first face-to-face talks, held at the White House Oval Office on July 26, 2021, more than 18 years after US troops were sent to the country. The mission in Iraq will conclude after the recently announced withdrawal of the last American forces from Afghanistan by the end of August.
