Facial recognition cameras coming to Lan Kwai Fong party hub, says Hong Kong police chief

Hong Kong’s first set of 50 surveillance cameras, installed by police in the city’s party district Lan Kwai Fong, will have crowd-counting capabilities in time for Halloween festivities around October 31, 2024. In an interview with the Post, Commissioner of Police Raymond Siu also said facial recognition technology will be available with the devices next year. He said Hong Kong has also started installing surveillance cameras in crime hotspots across the city. Authorities had previously announced plans to have 2,000 to 2,500 cameras online each year, starting in 2025.
