Hong Kong police on April 23, 2021, held a counterterrorism drill to raise the public’s awareness of how to report and respond to an attack. The exercise included two sections: one simulating the discovery of a suspicious object at Hong Kong International Airport and the other enacting a scenario where suspects take hostages at the terminal and threaten a bomb attack. Leung Wai-ki, acting senior superintendent of the city’s counterterrorism unit, said the level of terrorist threat in Hong Kong “remains moderate”, but that police will closely monitor the risk.
