A giant panda in Hong Kong has given birth to a pair of cubs – a first for the city. Ying Ying delivered the twins at Ocean Park in the early morning of August 15, 2024. She is now the world’s oldest giant panda to successfully reproduce for the first time in captivity. The cubs were naturally conceived, but the pregnancy was kept secret until almost 24 hours after they were born. Ying Ying previously failed to conceive naturally and despite attempts using artificial insemination. Ocean Park says the cubs are under round-the-clock intensive care and it will be a few months before they are introduced to the public.
