Hong Kong’s pandas

Hong Kong is getting two more giant pandas, but what does caring for them involve?

Hong Kong's chief executive John Lee announced on July 1, 2024, that Beijing will soon be gifting the city with a pair of giant pandas. The animals will be the first panda pair Hong Kong has received in 17 years and only the third such gift to the city from mainland Chinese authorities. Many people have welcomed the news, including staff at Hong Kong's Ocean Park, which already houses two pandas. Ying Ying and Le Le are a major attraction at the theme park and the two new pandas joining them are expected to draw in even more crowds. The Post's Connor Mycroft spoke to one of the panda caretakers to learn about the challenges of looking after the giant bears.
