The Dalai Lama, the exiled Tibetan spiritual leader, received his first of two doses of the coronavirus vaccine on March 6, 2021. The 85-year-old received the Covishield vaccine, developed by Oxford University and UK-based drug maker AstraZeneca and manufactured by India’s Serum Institute, at a hospital in the north Indian hill town of Dharamsala. India has been allowing vaccinations for the nation’s general public since March 1.
