Hong Kong will end its indoor and outdoor mask requirements from March 1, 2023, according to the city’s leader. Chief Executive John Lee announced the move on February 28, the day after neighbouring city Macau dropped its general rule on mask-wearing in outdoor areas. Lee said the move was because Hong Kong’s epidemic situation was “under control”. The financial hub has had a mask mandate in place for nearly 3 years, one of longest such measures in the world. Government officials hope lifting the restrictions will attract visitors and businesses.
