Chinese President Xi Jinping has unveiled a new blueprint for the next phase of the Belt and Road Initiative, Beijing’s programme to link economies in a China-centred trading network. Xi’s eight-point vision includes a logistics corridor across Europe and Asia, a “silk road” e-commerce zone and green development. The approach aligns with China’s goal of attaining long-term “high-quality” growth. Xi presented the plan at the Belt and Road Forum in Beijing. The October 17-18, 2023, event welcomed representatives from 140 countries including Russian President Vladimir Putin.
