At least two people were reported dead on July 31, 2023, as Tropical Storm Dok Suri sparked floods and landslides in several districts in the Chinese capital Beijing. State media reported that two bodies were found in Beijing’s western Mentougou district as Beijing’s hydrological station issued a red flood alert, forcing at least 31,000 people to flee their homes.
