Critics slam China’s new tiger hotel, where guests can see a tiger from their rooms

A hotel in China has been offering guests the chance to sleep ‘next to’ a tiger. The Sendi Tribe Treehouse Hotel is located in Nantong Forest Safari Park in Jiangsu province. It was set to open new rooms built around a tiger pen in the adjoining park, from where guests could observe and sleep near a tiger. The experience had been planned to celebrate Chinese New Year which, in 2022, is the Year of the Tiger. However, the project has drawn criticism in China over the animal’s welfare, leading a local official to say the experience is now being re-evaluated. Tigers are classified as an endangered species and in the wild, they normally roam freely across large areas of territory.
