China had built over 130,000 5G base stations across the country as of the end of 2019, according to Miao Wei, the nation’s Minister of Industry and Information Technology. In a press conference on January 20, 2020, he also said China officially started commercialising the fifth-generation mobile telecommunications technology services in October 2019.
