North Korean leader Kim Jong-un replaced the country's top general Pak Su-il just 7 months after Pak served as the Chief of the General Staff. In the same meeting, Kim also called for more preparations of possibilities of war, state media reported on August 9, 2023. The meeting was held days after Kim made a rare trip to multiple weapons factories, where he called for more missile engines, artillery and other weapons to be built.
