The family of Indonesian football stampede victim Iwan Junaedi remembers the father of three as an avid Arema FC fan, who would skip school to watch the team play. Junaedi was among at least 125 people killed on October 1, 2022, when Indonesian police fired tear gas to disperse football fans at the Kanjuruhan Stadium in East Java. Despite the tragedy, his wife believes he would be proud to have died in the place he loved most. Indonesian authorities promised to investigate the incident and offered 50 million rupiah (US$3,268) in compensation to families of the victims.
