Beyond dots and pumpkins: Hong Kong M+ marks 1st anniversary with mesmerising Kusama retrospective

To celebrate its one-year anniversary, Hong Kong’s museum of visual culture has organised the exhibition Yayoi Kusama: 1945 to Now. In the largest retrospective of the artist’s work in Asia outside Japan, Kusama’s pumpkins, polka dots and mirrored spaces are just the tip of the iceberg. The museum’s first Special Exhibition features more than 200 works by the 93-year-old Japanese artist, including three site-specific artworks that debute on the November 12 birthday of M+. The Post sat down with the co-curators, M+’s Doryun Chong and independent curator Mika Yoshitake, to talk about the artist and the unique exhibition.
