Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he would be ready to give up the presidency if it would secure lasting peace for Ukraine under the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (Nato) security umbrella. Zelensky made the remarks at a government forum in Kyiv on February 24, 2025, ahead of the third anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. His comments appeared to be aimed at recent suggestions by US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin advocating for elections to be held in Ukraine, despite the country's legislation prohibiting them under martial law.
