Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on February 13, 2025, that Ukraine would not accept any bilateral agreement on its fate reached by Moscow and Washington without Kyiv’s involvement. He also called for Europe to have a seat at the table in negotiations to end the war. His comments came a day after US President Donald Trump spoke to Russian leader Vladimir Putin and announced the start of negotiations to end the Ukraine war. The call, and remarks by Trump’s defence secretary saying Kyiv cannot join Nato and that it was ‘unrealistic’ for Ukraine to expect to reclaim control of its pre-2014 borders, have caused alarm in Europe.
