US President Joe Biden made his first major address on July 24, 2024, since announcing he was ending his quest for a second term. Biden said explained his decision to step down was driven by a desire to “unite” his Democratic Party and give rise to “younger voices”. Biden also said the US still led the world in “chips and science and innovation”, and vowed to bolster support for American allies in the Pacific.
