In Kyrgyzstan’s only female prison, spring festival brings moment of respite

Female inmates in Kyrgyzstan are celebrating the arrival of spring during the Nowruz festival in the Central Asian country’s only female prison. Nowruz, an ancient Persian holiday that usually falls between March 19 to 21 every year, is one of the few days the women can briefly forget the realities of being a prisoner, and are allowed to put on performances with traditional wrestling competitions.
